    Application of Core Vector Machine for Prediction of Day-Ahead Electricity Prices

    This paper presents Core Vector Machine (CVM) applied for short term electricity price forecasting in an Indian energy market. The accuracy in electricity price forecasting is very crucial for the power producers and consumers. With the accurate price forecasting, power producers can maximize their profit and manage short term operation. Meanwhile, consumers can maximize their utilities efficiently. The objective of this research is to develop models for day-ahead price forecasting using CVM during various seasons. A feature selection technique is used along with the CVM to reduce the variables for accurate price forecasting. Simulation results reveal that the CVM along with feature selection gives better results when compared with other machine learning techniques

    Treatment compliance in relation to source of referral and initial reaction to the diagnosis of tuberculosis

    The source of referral and patient’s reaction to diagnosis were studied in relation to regularity of treatment in 107 patients attending Tuberculosis Research Centre (TRC), Chennai. In all, 29% of the patients were referred by family members, 27% by neighbours and friends, 11% attended on their own, private practitioners referred 18% and government facilities/NGOs referred 15%. The initial reactions to diagnosis of tuberculosis were anxiety, fear, worry and/or shock in 59%. Only 31% of the patients were hopeful of cure at the time. All those who attended on their own completed > 80% of treatment as did 90% of those who were hopeful of cure at the time of diagnosis. And, 86% of those who experienced a negative reaction (fear of death, anxiety and worry) completed > 80% of treatment

    Power quality improvement in distribution system based on dynamic voltage restorer using PI tuned fuzzy logic controller

    Purpose. This article proposes a new control strategy for Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) in utility grid for distribution system. The proposed DVR using PI tuned fuzzy logic scheme is based on replacement of conventional DVR and voltage sag compensation in distribution system network. The novelty of the proposed work consists in presenting an enhanced PI tuned fuzzy logic algorithm to control efficiently the dynamic voltage restorer when voltage sag is suddenly occurred. Methods. The proposed algorithm which provides sophisticated and cost-effective solution for power quality problems. Our strategy is based on tuned fuzzy control of reactive powers and also closed loop for harmonic reduction in distribution system. The proposed control technique strategy is validated using MATLAB / Simulink software to analysis the working performances. Results. The results obtained clearly show that DVR using PI tuned fuzzy logic have good performances (sag compensation, harmonic reduction) compared to conventional DVR. Originality. Compensation of voltage sag/ swell in distribution for reactive power and current harmonic reduction by using DVR based PI tuned fuzzy logic controller. Practical value. The work concerns the comparative study and the application of DVR based on PI tuned fuzzy techniques to achieve a good performance control system of the distribution system. This article presents a comparative study between the conventional DVR control and PI tuned fuzzy DVR control. The strategy based on the use of a PI tuned fuzzy controller algorithm for the control of the continuous voltage sag and harmonic for the distribution network-linear as well as non-linear loads in efficient manner. The study is validated by the simulation results based on MATLAB / Simulink software.Мета. У статті пропонується нова стратегія управління пристроєм динамічного відновлення напруги (ДВН) в мережі розподільної системи. Запропонований ДВН, що використовує схему нечіткої логіки з ПІ-налаштуванням, заснований на заміні звичайного ДВН та компенсації провалів напруги в мережі розподільної системи. Новизна запропонованої роботи полягає у поданні удосконаленого алгоритму нечіткої логіки з ПІ-налаштуванням для ефективного управління динамічним відновником напруги при раптовому виникненні провалу напруги. Методи. Запропоновано алгоритм, який забезпечує складне та економічне вирішення проблем якості електроенергії. Наша стратегія заснована на нечіткому керуванні реактивною потужністю, що налаштовується, а також на замкненому контурі для зниження гармонік в розподільній системі. Запропонована методика управління перевіряється за допомогою програмного забезпечення MATLAB/Simulink для аналізу робочих характеристик. Результати. Отримані результати чітко показують, що ДВН, який використовує нечітку логіку з ПІ-налаштуванням, має хороші характеристики (компенсація провалів, зниження гармонік) порівняно із звичайним ДВН. Оригінальність. Компенсація провалів/стрибків напруги у розподільній мережі для зниження реактивної потужності та гармонік струму за допомогою нечіткої логіки з використанням ДВН на основі контролера нечіткої логіки з ПІ-налаштуванням. Практична цінність. Робота стосується порівняльного дослідження та застосування ДВН на основі нечіткої логіки з ПІ-налаштуванням для досягнення хороших параметрів системи керування розподільною системою. У статті представлено порівняльне дослідження звичайного керуванням ДВН та нечіткого керування ДВН з ПІ-налаштуванням. Стратегія, заснована на використанні алгоритму нечіткої логіки з ПІ-налаштуванням для ефективного керування безперервним провалом напруги та гармоніками для лінійних та нелінійних навантажень розподільчої мережі. Дослідження підтверджено результатами моделювання на основі програмного забезпечення MATLAB/Simulink

    ANTI BACTERIAL EFFECT OF SIDDHA PREPARATION NAAVAL KOTTAI MATHIRAI AGAINST COMMON URINARY PATHOGENS

    Urinary tract infections are more common, more severe, and carry worse out comes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. They are more often caused by resistant pathogens. The management of UTI in diabetes patients is very difficult. The patients are undergoing for antibiotic treatment for this issue in every occasion. In Siddha system, the diabetes has been successfully treated with traditional Siddha preparations which are poly herbal, herbo-mineral and metallic formulations. Most of the Siddha anti-diabetic preparations are possessing anti bacterial effect along with its anti-diabetic effect. So the management of urinary tract infections in diabetic patients is very easy. Naaval Kottai Mathirai is one among the anti-diabetic Siddha herbal preparation which is prepared from the seeds of Syzygium cumini (L.) skeels and Aristolochia bracteolata Lam. leaf juice. An attempt has been made to screen the antibacterial effect of NKM against the selected pathogens which are commonly responsible for UTI particularly in diabetes by disc diffusion method. The result of this study is really appreciable. The result of this study showed the marked anti bacterial effect against Escherichia coli 15mm, Staphylococcus aureus 17mm, Bacillus subtilis 14mm, Klebsiella pneumonia 12mm, Pseudomonas aeruginosa 12mm and Enterococcus faecalis 11mm. Finally this study concluded that, the drug NKM can be used for diabetes and UTI particularly in diabetic patients. Further studies are needed to explore the novel antibacterial bioactive molecules

    A key factor limiting the democratisation of networked systems is the lack of trust, particularly in the wake of data-intensive applications that work on sensitive and private data, which requires providing strong network security guarantees via encryption and authentication algorithms, as well as rethinking algorithms to compute on the network peripheries without moving data. In many security and privacy-critical domains such as Home Automation IoT networks, AUV networks etc., the existence of a centralized privileged node leads to a vulnerability for leakage of sensitive information. In this paper, we have proposed a decentralized networking architecture that adopts collaborative processing techniques and operates within the tradeoff between network security and performance. We have investigated the design and sustainability of autonomous decentralized systems and evaluated the efficiency of the proposed scheme with the help of extensive simulation tools

    Fruit and seed development in mung beans (Phaseolus aureus Roxb.)

    A study of fruit set at different nodes was made in mung beans, Phaseolus aureus Roxb., under field conditions. Flowering commenced on the fourth node from the base and the percentage fruit set showed a gradual decrease from the fifth node upwards. Yield analysis was carried out for each of the fruiting nodes. When the leaf and inflorescences at a node are taken as a functional unit it is seen that there was a decrease in the ratio of leaf area to fruit and seed weights from the base of the plant upwards indicating that at the upper nodes particularly, some other plant parts also contribute to the photosynthate pool of the developing seeds. A quantitative study of the dry matter, proteins and starch in the fruit wall and seeds of fruits at different stages of development was made. It showed that the rapid increase in dry matter, proteins and starch in the seeds at the later stages of development is compensated, in part, by a decrease of these components in the fruit wall. Histochemical studies of the fruit wall further supported these observations. This indicated the contribution of substrates by the fruit wall to the developing seeds
